HOW TO HELP
What is Essential Tremor Clinical Trials Research
Patient participation is crucial for advancing ET research and medical progress. Research aims to establish the safety and effectiveness of new treatments and to improve the quality of life for those with Essential Tremor.
Participants join clinical trials for various reasons: healthy volunteers to contribute to science, and those with ET to access cutting-edge treatments and receive dedicated care. Clinical research involves trials to evaluate new medical interventions, including drug studies and long-term psychological or genetic research.
Each trial follows a strict protocol detailing eligibility, objectives, procedures, risks, and benefits. Researchers must provide essential information, allowing participants to ask questions and review documents before giving informed consent.

Before drugs, treatments, and surgical procedures can be approved for use in a patient population, they are rigorously reviewed through a clinical trial.
DSF is pleased to help you access basic information about ongoing research studies at various movement disorder centers nationwide, both for people with ET and for control participants without ET.

What to Expect
|
Not everyone interested in a clinical trial will be eligible, due to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. Eligible individuals will be informed about the study, risks, and benefits. After consideration, volunteers sign the consent and enroll.
Research team members will assess the participant’s health at the start of the trial and provide instructions for participation. The participant will be monitored and will stay in contact with the team after the study. Generally, there is no cost for study services, and travel expenses may be covered. Participants should confirm whether travel costs are included and, if so, the maximum covered amount, or whether this is an in-home study. |
