The Signing Santa Carries The Day. A Six-Year-Old Hearing Impaired Girl Had The Surprise Of Her Life When She Visited Santa And He Started To Sign To Her.
A six-year-old hearing impaired girl’s Christmas was brightened when she visited Santa and he surprised her with sign language. She will always remember that treat.
Sadie Adam was shocked when Santa started signing to her as she walked towards him in Westminster, Massachusetts, on December 6.
Her mother Ronelle Adam told WCVB:
(Scroll down for the video report.)
She literally stopped dead in her tracks, and she just stared at him. I instantly started tearing.
Overjoyed, Sadie asked Santa for a baby and a kitchen and he understood her perfectly.
Westminster’s police chief Salvatore Albert, who has played Santa for 15 years, told ABC News:
I am glad I was able to communicate with Sadie. It was amazing to see the smile on her face and her eyes wide open with joy that Santa knew sign language. I am going to try to learn more for next year.
Albert had been working with Sadie’s mother, Ronelle Adam, who had asked him to learn enough signs to communicate with her daughter. He said:
She sat with me for about an hour. I practiced it for three days.
When the day came and he met Sadie — and played his part — he said he was moved to see how the girl’s eyes brightened up. After the meeting, Sadie said:
Santa knew my name. He knew how to sign it. I told him what I wanted — a kitchen and a baby.
Her mom said that Sadie has not stopped talking about it since.
